What type of service is Viasat providing?

Viasat provides coaxial cable internet to businesses on Guantanamo Bay Navy Base. This type of internet will provide a vastly improved experience with increased speeds, more capacity, and enhanced reliability. Viasat Voice Navy plans can be configured to include multiple phone lines with dedicated Miami-area phone numbers, supports inbound and outbound calling, generous calling plans with calls to the US, Canada, and Mexico included in the monthly rate. Voice service also supports on base calling using four and five-digit number formats. Voice service requires subscription to Viasat internet service.

How do I get the new service?

After receiving the signed Agreement, a Viasat representative will be in touch with you to schedule installation, and if needed, construction.

Why are there construction costs associated with my internet service?

If your building is not connected to the existing base-wide coaxial infrastructure, then some construction may be required to connect your business. Viasat will perform a site survey and be sure to provide any estimated costs prior to performing any work.

What's the installation process like?

An installation representative will contact your business to schedule the installation. A technician will need to visit your building and install a new modem. Once the modem is installed and registration is complete, you will have access to the internet. For Voice service installation, an installation representative will contact your business to schedule the installation. A technician will need to visit your building and install the new Voice Gateway and verify dial tone to the Voice Gateway. Customer is responsible for connecting their existing analog phones to the Gateway.

Once installed, how do I register/access the internet?

  • 1. Once your modem is installed, connect a device to your modem via a wired connection (Ethernet cable).
  • 2. Go to an internet browser, and you will be redirected to the account registration page.
  • 3. Create an account, select a rate plan, and enter in your credit card information.
  • 4. After these steps are complete, you will be able to surf the internet.

After registration, you will no longer see the portal page, but you can always access your account information at www.gowifinavy.com.

What equipment is needed to access the Internet?

The Viasat-provided modem will provide up to a 100Mbps Ethernet connection. If you would prefer a wireless internet connection, you may ask the Viasat Sales Representative about our goWiFi service. In addition, you may plug in your own equipment (router/extender/etc.) to the Viasat modem.

If you choose to add your own router, listed below are manufacturer links to four of the routers commonly available at the NEX that Viasat recommends:

Viasat can assist with the initial setup and connection of these routers to your modem. If your router is not one of these supported models, we will not have the expertise to assist you in connecting it to our platform.

What equipment is needed to use Voice Service?

A Viasat-provided Voice Gateway will be required.

How fast is the Internet service?

Speeds vary by plan, between up to 5 Mbps and up to 100 Mbps.

How much does the Internet service cost?

Cost varies depending on the service plan you select, between $129.95 and $339.00 per month.

How much does the Voice service cost?

The first Voice phone line costs $29.99 per month. Each additional line costs $15 per month. (Additional one-time equipment fee applies.)

Are there any other fees or charges?

There are no other fees or charges for internet service. All taxes and fees are included. For Voice service, additional one-time equipment fee applies.

If I sign up for a plan, are there any contracts?

Yes, there is a minimum 1-year contractual commitment. There are also longer-term options available.

How am I billed?

You will be automatically billed electronically by credit card.

Is there a data allowance or data usage overage charge?

No, there is no data allowance or overage charge. Use as much data as you like!

Are any traffic types filtered?

No, traffic is not filtered.

Are pings blocked?

No, pings are not blocked.

Is the modem NAT capable?

No, the modem is not NAT capable. Your personal router must perform NAT.

How do I get my static IP address?

A Viasat representative will reach out via email and provide your IP address/es.

Do these IPs require a routed or bridged device?

The IP’s require a routed device.

How many devices can I connect?

You can connect one wired device to the modem. Your personal router allows for unlimited wireless connections.
